The four short films in the series “Fish kill in the Oder River” highlight what the ODER~SO research project has discovered about the environmental disaster since its launch in March 2023. The film crew accompanied the scientists as they worked on the river and its tributaries as well as in the lab.
Under what conditions does the alga Prymnesium parvum grow, whose toxins led to the massive fish kill in the summer of 2022? How can we monitor today whether a new mass development of Prymnesium is occuring in the Oder? Which organisms have suffered most from the disaster and how are they recovering? How can the ecosystem of the Oder River become more resilient? The films provide answers to the most important questions about one of the most devastating extreme events ever to occur in a river.
